In what can only be described as truly shocking, a Westmeath teacher has been thrown into Mountjoy Prison tonight for contempt of court over a row where he refuses to address a child he is teaching as “them”.

Teacher Enock Burke said that he was in court for “refusing to call a boy a girl” and that addressing the child as “them” goes against his Christian beliefs, Virgin Media reports.
The Judge gave the teacher time to consider whether he would continue going to school or stay away during the court case, to which he said that he would continue to go to school because that was his job.
He was then found in contempt of court and was thrown into Mountjoy Prison where he’ll remain until another court appearance on Wednesday where his school is looking to further extend their order against him.
