On March 23rd 1933 in Nazi Germany, the Law for Removing Distress of People and Reich, better known as the Enabling Act, was signed into law. Its purpose, or so it was told, was to keep the people safe from the threat of dangerous Communist and Socialist actors.

Despite giving himself sweeping powers, Chancellor Adolf Hitler promised to make use of them only insofar as they were essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures.

He lied.

The images below show the carnage that ensued almost immediately after the law was passed, as Fascist paramilitary thugs violently oppressed their fellow Germans.

On February 14th 2022 in Canada, the Emergencies Act was invoked. Its purpose, or so it was told, was to keep the people safe from the threat of dangerous far-right activists, conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers.

Despite giving himself sweeping powers, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised that they would be “proportional”, insinuating that he would make use of them only insofar as they were essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures.

He lied too.
