The newly appointed Taoiseach Micheal Martin has insisted that keeping pubs closed will prevent a larger coronavirus outbreak.
Pubs were due to reopen on Monday July 20, but that date has now been postponed until August 10th at the earliest.
Coronavirus cases have been rising steadily in Ireland over the last couple of weeks, prompting deep concerns about the resurgence of the disease in the country and a potential return to lockdown.
